Panelist
Theatre Director ~ Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
www.miscellaneous-inc.org

Elaine Carol is a director, artist, writer, performer and activist whose interdisciplinary and site-specific performances have been presented across Canada in Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver and Richmond. Her subject matter deals with many difficult issues facing the youth of today in Canada – bullying, drug addiction, early sexual activity, gang violence, street racing, racism, etc.

In July 2000, along with Jules Rochielle and a volunteer Board of Directors, Elaine Carol founded a new interdisciplinary arts organization, Miscellaneous Productions, in Vancouver, BC, which focuses on professional, original, issue-based performances written with and performed by non-professional participants.

Miscellaneous Productions works include:  The Reena Project: Outcasts & Angels (in memory of Reena Virk - performance and documentary - 2001);  What You Carry With You... (performance - 2003);  Miscellaneous Magazine (publication - 2004) and e-race (performance 2005 and video adaptation 2006).

Elaine's radio-phonic audio pieces have been broadcast across Canada, in San Francisco, Vienna and Melbourne, Australia. In 1998-9, she travelled throughout North America collecting material on an experimental, radio-phonic work funded by the Canada Council for the Arts entitled Radio Pride. Her essays, articles and performance texts have been published in the critically acclaimed collection Suggestive Poses: Artists and Critics Respond to Censorship, as well as Fuse Magazine, Borderlines, Parallelogramme, The Toronto Star and the Women's Press Anthology Countering the Myths.

Elaine is currently developing a new artists and community collaboration project with East Vancouver youth and the Vancouver East Cultural Centre entitled Stock Characters:  The Cooking Show that will receive its premiere in September 2007.
