He is a member of The Architectural Institute of BC, The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, The Canada Green Building Council LEED A/P and the Board of Directors of Smart-Growth BC.
As the Principal of D’Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism and predecessor firms, D’Ambrosio is an advocate for civic responsibility in the design profession. His practice is design-based and collaborative, and his work integrates environmentally responsible and humane architecture, within sustainable land-use and smart-growth planning principles. The focus on urbanism reflects an interest in the history of human settlement and the rich patterns, constructs and spaces that constitute the architecture of the city. The underlying principles of the practice are: that the relationships between elements and spaces of a city are functions of the complex relationships between architecture and the public and private realms; and that the Vitruvian tenets of Firmness, Commodity and Delight, balanced with Ecological Compatibility, should guide the production of architecture and the planning of cities.
D’Ambrosio has been a session studio professor, thesis critic, guest speaker and presenter on architecture, sustainable planning and urban design at a number of universities and conferences, and has served on a number of architectural and urban design-related juries, panels and boards. He has been recognized by numerous local community awards including The Waterfront Centre Award for Excellence and The Canadian Urban Institute Brownie Award for Heritage/ Brownfield Redevelopment.
