FRANCIS FRASCINA

Keynote Speaker
Art Historian ~ Cunmore, Berkshire, England

Francis Frascina is John Raven Professor of Visual Arts in the Department of American Studies at Keele University in England. He formerly held academic posts in Fine Arts at Leeds University and in Art History at the Open University. In 1999 he was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Duke University, North Carolina and in 2001-2002 was a Visiting Scholar in Residence at Duke University whilst in receipt of an AHRB Research Leave Award. His research interests include the social history of modern art and modernism and relationships between art, culture and politics in America since 1945.
 
His publications include: Art in Modern Culture: An Anthology of Critical Texts; Modernism in Dispute: Art Since the Forties; Modernity and Modernism: French Painting in the Nineteenth Century; Primitivism, Cubism, Abstraction: The Early Twentieth Century; Art, Politics and Dissent: Aspects of the Art Left in Sixties America; Pollock and After: the Critical Debate.

He is currently working on ‘September 11’ and Visual Culture, which was supported by a Leverhulme Research Fellowship during 2004-2005. Articles from this project can be found in the Journal of Visual Culture, Oxford Art Journal, Journal of Contemporary History and Peace Review: A Journal of Social Justice.
