Guest Speakers![]() SHERI-D WILSONPanelistPoet ~ Calgary, Alberta, Canada www.sheridwilson.com The Mama of Dada – sheri-d wilson (poet, playwright, performer, film-maker, essayist, teacher) has been called one of North America’s most compelling action poets. Her unparalleled performance style is rich with erotic jazz, infused with a sharp feminist sensibility, and laced with a dangerous wit. In 2005 she participated in Alberta Scene a celebration to commemorate Alberta’s 100-year centennial, and she was honoured with Global TV’s Woman of Vision distinction. Her live performance/readings highlights include: Montreal’s Festival Voix D’Ameriques and Spoken Word Festival, the PanCanadian Wordfests in Calgary and Banff, the Vancouver International Writers Festival, Harbourfront Reading Series in Toronto, Seattle’s The Bumbershoot Bout and Superbowl of Poetry, the Small Press Festival in New York, the Brainwash Reading Series in San Francisco, the World Poetry Bout in Taos, Mexico, South Africa’s Poetry Africa and Shakespeare and Co. in Paris. Of the beat tradition, in 1989 sheri-d studied at Naropa, The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder, Colorado. sheri-d wilson’s work was recently featured on CBC’s Word Beat and ZED TV and she has written many articles for the Globe and Mail. She is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Calgary International Spoken Word Festival. |
