SHEILA NOPPERPanelist Poet ~ Denman Island, British Columbia, Canada
Sheila Nopper is currently a freelance writer, pirate radio broadcaster and poet. While living in Toronto she was a community radio programmer at CIUT and one of the coordinators of the first International Dub Poetry Festival in 1993. In Illinois she was a founder of the Springfield Independent Media Center, and also worked with girls aged 8-14 to produce live and recorded segments for the program “Grrrl Radio” that was broadcast biweekly on an educationally-licensed station.
Her articles, radio programming and documentaries, as well as her occasional reports for CBC's Global Village, have focussed on cultural resistance in relation to media, art and music. She now happily resides on Denman Island where she merrily dances among the kindred spirits of the temperate rainforest.
