WOLF EDWARDS

Wolf Edwards (b. Montreal, 12 November, 1972) received formal training as an undergraduate at the University of Victoria. After completing his degree in 2000, he moved to Montreal where he attended private studies in composition and analysis with Quebec composer Gilles Tremblay. In 2002, Mr. Edwards was granted a two-year fellowship from the University of Victoria where he completed his Masters Degree in music composition and theory.

Wolf is a long-time activist whose compositions reflect on issues of social injustice, the degradation of the environment, and Indigenous struggles.  In addition to composing, Wolf plays guitar in the anarchist punk rock band, Iskra.

Wolf has received many awards including 3rd Prize in the Canada Council for the Arts/CBC‚s Jules Leger Competition for New Chamber Music, 3rd Prize in the Molinari International Composition Competition, and 1st Prize in the Strings of the Future Composition Competition, the Sonic Boom Prize in Composition, and the Murray Adaskin Prize in Composition. His works have been performed in both Europe and North America by the Arditti String Quartet, Ensemble Contemporain de Montreal, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Quasar Quatuor de Saxophones, Sofia Soloists Ensemble, Quatuor Bozzini, Quatuor Molinari and Victoria's new music group, Aventa. Wolf has conducted feature interviews with the CBC and his compositions have been broadcast in Canada and abroad. He currently lives and works in Victoria, British Columbia.
